doG (poem)

Homecoming not just a doorway

We are delight

Joy the depth of our soul

Sanctuary of warmth and muscle

Our path the tall grass parting

Like wings our heart

The lathe of flight

The woods are honest before us

Our name’s green signature

We follow its quicksilver lining

With our open feet

Fill the echo of deer trail

Chart our course by a star that is two

We are naïve disciples

To this practical mystery

DNA a holy spider

Weaving our threads

Forever gazing into our gaze

We taught each other the world

Form follows function follows family

Never doubting my bare-skinned

Dull-nosed tin-eared

Fragile self

Was yours
